Room was a bit tiered but I could see there were some renovations going on so I they will also do a bit with the rooms. The bed itself was not the best.

Pros

Absolutely no cons. Some rooms are small but well appointed! (This IS Paris afterall, a huge appartement would be 500 sq ft !) Clean, neat & quiet! Good value especially if you book a three nighter and get a small discount. Would definitely stay again! Staff are amazingly friendly and helpful!!!

The hotel staff is very welcoming and accommodating. I have stayed at the Hotel twice now. once in July 2010 and again recently in October 2011. On my next visit to Paris, I will stay here again. The location is great and the hotel is comfortable. on this last trip, repairs were being done to the hotel and my only fear is that the price to stay here will increase. One of the reasons I also like to stay at the Hotel du Vieux Marais is that the price is good and I would be disappointed to see a significant increase happen in the cost (given the upgrades to the place). The only con was that the hotel was being renovated when we were there so the main hallways were under construction and looked a bit shabby but nothing loud and I'm sure it will be wonderful when they are done.

Incredible location- easy walk to wonderful bistros and major sites. Nice neighborhood feel. Staff extremely helpful. Even helped us with doing our laundry and mailing home an item we left behind. We would stay at this hotel again.

Major renovation going on- a bit starling to enter the Lobby that completely gutted. There was no place to lounge or breakfast on site. But we can tell the outcome will be beautiful.

Pros

Great location -- steps from the Centre Pompidou and the Seine and within walking distance of the Louvre, Notre Dame, Musee D'Orsay, Musee de L'Orangerie. Nearby metro stops lead to every other major tourist attraction. The staff was extremely nice and helpful -- always made time to answer our questions and do extra research for us and make sure we were comfortable. The rooms were small without flourishes but clean and comfortable and had everything you needed. It was extremely well-priced for what we got.

Only small cons. .. The hotel was under renovation when we were there (could be noisy/dusty) -- but that meant we got a better price. The rooms are fairly small (but so are most hotel rooms in Europe). The shower in the bathroom doesn't have a curtain or anything around it so the entire bathroom gets wet when you shower. The Wifi didn't work very well (this is definitely in need of fixing).

Pros

The hotel staff were very welcoming and professional, spoke English, and offered advice and help at all hours. They also upgraded our standard room to a very large one on the top floor. The building is beautiful, and the rooms have recently been revamped and are well-appointed. I am not usually a fan of air-conditioning, but at the Vieux Marais it was completely silent -- allowed us to sleep without street noise. The television had many channels (in French), and by European standards the bathroom was huge. The room was thoroughly cleaned each day (with clean towels). Really, a joy to stay here. Plus, the Marais is a fabulous part of Paris.
